SANDY SHOW ATTRACTIONS Biggleswade Chronicle, 10th May 1946
Capt. Francis Pym, of Hasells Hall, Sandy, has accepted the presidency of this year’s Sandy Show –the first since 1939–which is to be held the last Thursday in August at Sandye Place. [. . .] In conjunction with the Show there will be a championship cat show, and exhibits of rabbits will be equivalent to a championship show.
SANDY SHOW ENTRIES UP TO EXPECTATIONS Biggleswade Chronicle, 23rd August 1946
The entries for Sandy Show, to be held next Thursday, are up to expectations, although, naturally, they do not reach the high level of the pre-war shows. [. . .]. Entries in the cat show are only eight short of the 1939 figure.
SANDY SHOW Biggleswade Chronicle, 16th August 1946
The cat show is one of the few championship shows being held in England this year. Because of this the entries are heavy and the aristocracy of the feline world will be present.
SANDY SHOW Bedfordshire Times and Independent, 16th August 1946
The cat show will be one of the few championship shows to be held in the country this year, and consequently has claimed very great support.
SANDY SHOW Biggleswade Chronicle, 30th August 1946
Cats compare well with the 1939 show, 217 against 224 [. . .] There was only one local exhibitor, L.R. Cones, of Ashwell, among the 217 entries, and she was very highly commended for her blue female long-hair cat, “Ringalwiyah Pixie.”

1946 COVENTRY CAT SHOW
COVENTRY CAT SHOW Fur and Feather, Rabbits and Rabbit-Keeping, September 27, 1946
The cat section of the Coventry F. and F.S. [Fur and Feather Society] show, on Aug. 31st, was held under the man¬agement of Mrs. Phil. Gardner, who worked very hard. There were 24 exhibits, with 35 entries, and the quality of the Blue female adults was very high. Some of the kittens were also outstanding. They all carried long, even coats and the eye colour was amazing in kittens so young.
BLUE, M., 2: 1 Mrs Clarke’s Glenroy Timothy, best cat in show, lovely massive boned cat, carrying a profuse, pale, flowing coat, good round copper eye, grand head, neat ears, very hard to fault, a cat that should go far; 2 Mrs. Hillyers Harmour of Hillgarth, neat ears, lovely eye colour, nice, short, full brush but rather dark in colour, a little more show preparation would have helped this exhibit a lot.
BLUE, FEMALE, 8: 1 Mrs. Bradley's Oxley’s Blue Poppy, (reserve best in show), lovely quality queen of excel¬lent type, with short nose, copper eyes, neat, well-placed ears, heavy, sound, pale coat of exquisite texture; 2 Mrs. Clarke’s Blue Desire, very small queen of good type, sweet short face, neat well-tufted ears, lovely wide-open eyes and pale coat; 3 Mrs. Le Marinel’s La Corbiere Perfection, a lovely big-boned queen, profuse pale coat, good strong muzzle, nice eyes for shape and colour, would like a little more width between the ears; ex 3 Mrs. Blythe's Priory Keepsake, glorious eyes, sound coat, good type, rather fails in ears; r Miss Sherburn’s Ronada Daydream, rather dark in colour, nice type, with good strong chin; vhc and hc Mrs. Gardner; abs. Mrs. Carbert.
BLUE MALE KITTEN, 3: 1 Miss Sherburn’s Blue Jeepers, a very even pale-coated kitten, with good width between the ears and grand head and eyes; 2 Mrs. Gardner's Roy of Laburnum, a most attractive kitten, I was sorry to have to place him 2nd, but his eyes are not yet deter¬mined and his coat was a little too pale; this kitten excelled in type, head and ears, and I predict a great future for him – I wanted to steal him! 3 Mrs. Rainbow’s Robin of Laburnum, little too snipy, good even coat and nice eyes.
BLUE FEMALE KITTEN, 7: 1 Mrs. Gardner, Shy Lady of Laburnum, a little gem, glorious, large copper eyes, neat well-tufted ears, very good head, in lovely coat and condition; I remarked while judging this kitten that I thought she was a “Pensford,” and I find she owns Joy of Pensford as her grandmother; I made Shy Lady my best Blue kitten; 2 Mrs. Jones, Lucky Dawn, another very good kitten, good top to head, very nice type, short nose with a good stop, lovely eyes; 3 Mrs. Walker's Blue Girl, very neat ears, good type and eyes; r Miss Sherburn, Dainty Girlie, fails in head, good eyes, even coat, well presented; vhc Mrs. Gardner; abs. Mrs. Gallini, Mrs. Crickmore.
BLUE BREEDERS, 11: 1 Glenroy Timothy; 2 La Cor¬biere Perfection; 3 Shy Lady of Laburnum; ex 3 Blue Jeepers; r Harmour of Hillgarth; vhc Mrs. Jones; hc, c Mrs. Gardner.
CREAMS AND SIAMESE, 4: 1 Mrs. Blythes Karulino Nickie, best kitten in show, beautiful, pale, unmarked Cream, glorious type and head, good bone and eyes, neat, well-placed ears, this kitten should be heard of again; 2 Mrs. Sims, King of Trevor (Cream), little too hot in colour, winner of special for best eyes in show, a little more show preparation would have helped this exhibit a lot; 3 Mrs. Walker’s Cream Boy, a lovely baby, pale coat, good head and ears, hard luck to come up against the winners; abs. Mrs. Carbert.
Many thanks to my steward. Mr. Barker, who was most helpful and very patient.– Doris Brice-Webb.

MICE KEPT CLEAR SUCCESSFUL CROYDON CAT SHOW Croydon Times, 9th November 1946
One of the happiest people at the Croydon Cat Club championship show, held at the Central Baths on Tuesday, was its 85-year-old Hon. Secretary, Miss H. Hill-Shaw, who was pleased with the show's success. It was the first since the beginning of the war, and 200 cats were entered. Miss Shaw has been secretary since the club started 21 years ago. The Mayor and Mayoress (Ald. and Mrs. J. Marshall) opened the show, and among the "unofficial" audience were Ald. and Mrs. H. J. Trickett. Mayor and Mayoress of Sutton.
Best cats in the show were as follows:
Best long-haired cat: Mrs. M. L. Sheppard's "Widdington Warden."
Best short-haired cat: Rev. B. Rees' "Sylvan Joey."
Best cat in show: Mrs. Sheppard's "Wlddlngton Warden."
Best long-haired kitten: Mesdames Broxton and Robinson's "Merely Meggoty."

[CROYDON] R.C.T.B.C. AND B.T. [RED, CREAM, TORTOISESHELL, BLUE-CREAM AND BROWN TABBY SOCIETY] Fur and Feather, Rabbits and Rabbit Keeping, November 15, 1946
Two further full champions were made in our section at the Croydon Victory show on Nov. 5th. Miss Fisher’s Dandy of Hadley, that striking brown Tabby, and my red, Hendon Sir Roderic. Both cats are home-bred. Dandy was sired by The Major ex Tabitha of Hadley; and started his winning career at the Notts, and Derby C.C. show last Nov., when he was reserve best cat in show. I am naturally proud of Roderic, for he owns my Ch. Hendon Lord Chancellor as father, dam Ch. Hendon Salata, so comprising both my old red favourites, for Salata was Hendon Defendant’s daughter.
Croydon was a most pleasant fixture. The spacious hall was bright with new paint and gay garlands were stretched across the roof. Viewed from the tiers of seats the ensemble was charming. The lining of white paper in the pens, and the coloured award cards with their victory sign were very effective.
The Neuter classes were surely to be conjured with. I noticed a very handsome red Tabby and a beautiful tortoise lady amongst them. Everyone was welcomed.
Mrs. Neate’s Section Leader delighted her heart by winning a championship. To crown it all, the best cat in the show was a Cream male, Widdington Warden, owned and bred by Mrs. M. L. Sheppard, and sired by Miss Pelly’s Theydon Sunset. Warden is a massive fellow of a lovely soft shade of cream, and was a winning kitten before the war.
Miss Hill Shaw, of course, was at the helm, and she had a valuable asset in the hon. show manager. Mr. Arthur A. Towe.
A correspondent inquires “Why, in some cases does the better striped cat lose in type?” I should appreciate replies. I can then give my own theory.
I have asked Mrs. Fosbery to send me some notes on the Red Tabbies in which she was so prominent before the war. – G. Campbell-Fraser, Little Primrose, Godalming, Surrey.
