WE ARE THE SIRENS
A song written and performed by a college friend years ago
A misty day upon the sea, the waves were icy blue,
"There’s land ahead" the lookout cried as rocks came into view.
Then suddenly an eerie voice echoed from the bay,
Like ghostly maidens singing, the voices seemed to say:
We are the sirens
Please draw your ship up close,
We’ll sing to your our songs.
In vain the captain told his men to turn the ship around,
But everyone was frozen by that strange transfixing sound,
Then finally the captain’s mind began to fade away,
He steered towards the shoreline and heard the voices say
We are the sirens
Please draw your ship up close,
We’ll sing to your our songs.
The ship was smashed against the rocks by howling raging waves.
The crew all lost their lives and sank to rest in watery graves
And the sirens faded away
(2000 years pass)
The squadron leader never read the legends of the seas,
So as he flew his team of planes his mind was well at ease,
Then suddenly an eerie voice echoed from below,
The ghostly maidens told him to bring his plane in low
We are the sirens
Please draw your ship up close,
We’ll sing to your our songs
