The Dreams We Can’t Recall

I had a dream the other night,
Now I see things in a different light,
I can’t remember what I dreamt,
But I ache for what it meant.
It told a tale of things long lost,
Of futile search, but what struck me most,
Was how the dreams we can’t recall,
Can scar the mind and change us all.

It told a tale of things long lost,
Of futile search, but what struck me most,
Was how the dreams we can't recall,
Can scar the mind and change us all.
Now awake, I search in vain,
Not knowing what I must regain,
Nothing is quite as it seemed,
In my elusive, unremembered dream.
I dreamt of things lost through the ages,
Of fury, grief, despairing rages,
A woman's smile, a woman's laugh,
Of long lost lovers, broken hearts,
Perhaps two people torn asunder,
Their deep despair like distant thunder,
Perhaps some object, lost, misplaced,
My mind was lost in time and space -
Now I search for ancient truths by day,
But all shreds of dream have fled away,
Sometimes I hear a laugh, a sigh,
But what I seek has long since died.'
And Then There Were None

We stood on the hill where we used to stand,
Quiet and still and hand in hand,
Looking down we watched the scene,
Shimmer away like a fading dream.
We watched the world melt into sky,
Dispersing in silence before our eyes,
In your arms I too faded away,
Still watching your slowly dissolving face.

Out of all evil may good be born
A lone blue trumpet to herald dawn.
