REMARKABLE CATS MISCELLANY
CAT REFUSED TO SAIL
Deserted the Empress of Ireland before the Fatal Voyage Began
Special Cable to the new York Times.
London, July 15 (1914). - After a lecture at the Occult Club tonight on psychic experience a woman speaking referred to the strange behavior of the ship's cat of the liner Empress of Ireland.
When the vessel was about to leave Quebec the cat came hurrying down the gangway, bearing two of her kittens in her mouth. Efforts were made to get her to return, but though she had made the vessel her regular homes even when in ports, nothing would persuade her to go back, and she was allowed to take her abode in the shed. She consequently escaped destruction on the foundering of the vessel.
Furthermore, according to the speaker, the cat was heard to emit a long and sustained "miaou" at the very moment when the ship sank.
